In the fall of 2007, I noticed a change in Rugby’s eating and drinking behavior. Rugby was hardly eating and drinking lots and lots of water. I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Rugby needs an appointment at the Vet.” So I called Trickum Ridge Animal Clinic and they made an appointment for Rugby to see them the following day. So me and Rugby paid a visit to Dr. Cohn. He examined Rugby and took an X ray of her. It was very sad news that he reported, “Rugby is in kidney failure. She won’t live much longer but you may be able to extend her life some by giving her IV treatments at home.” So we brought Rugby back to our home with the necessary equipment to start the treatments. I comforted her while my husband gently stuck the IV needle into one of Rugby’s veins. I then held the IV bag up while we patiently waited for all the fluid in the IV bag to totally disappear. This was done on a regular basis. Unfortunately, it did not lengthen Rugby’s life span much. She got weaker and weaker. We placed Rugby in her cat bed on the floor in our master bedroom. We would check on her regularly. One early evening in December, my husband came into our upstairs TV/Work room and said to me, “We have lost her.” I quickly got up from the sofa and went into the bedroom where Rugby was. I looked at her and she was no longer breathing and I knew she had left us. Me and my husband wept for days. She was such a blessing and joy to us. We missed her immensely. There was such a void of emptiness in our lives and in our home. I found comfort in reading the book titled,” There is Eternal Life for Animals “by Niki Shanahan. God loves His creatures and Heaven would be such a lonely place without our pets. So I trust the Lord and His Bible Scriptures that we will get to spend Eternity with Rugby.
